Flat vs. Embossed?
Embossed vacuum seal bags have small air channels that allow the suction-type vacuum sealer to draw air out of the bag from the lower bag without collapsing on itself and trapping air. These vacuum sealers (like the Vac 'n Seal Elite pictured below) have the bag on the outside of the machine, and the open end is placed over a slot that creates the vacuum. They look like this kind of machine. So, the embossed pattern is necessary for the bags to vacuum properly.
Flat vacuum seal bags, on the other hand, are used inside a chamber vacuum sealer. These vacuum sealers vacuum the complete chamber, including the bag and contents inside, so no embossed air channels are needed to suck the air from the lower portion of the bag. These machines typically look like the OP10 chamber vacuum sealer below.

I love the concept of biodegradable. However, my vacuum sealer cannot vacuum the air out of these bags. It seals just fine, but does not vacuum. Other vacuum seal bags do vacuum, so it isn't my machine. I will keep trying because I don't want to use regular plastic anymore. Love the concept. Hope they get better.

Yes. These bags work well in the freezer. I have tried both VestaEco and FoodSaver bags. The VestaEco bags seal tighter and do not lose the seal over time.

I’ve bought these bags consistently over the last 2 years. I’ve been an avid vacuum sealer for over 12 years. Here’s my opinion. The plant based resins do not function as well as plastic bags. The bags do not stretch as tightly as traditional plastic bags, and I find I need to seal them twice to insure that the vacuum seal is secure. However, the trade off to the environmental impact has generally been worth the extra cost. I’ve simply learned to live with a little smidge of freezer burn as a trade off for feeling better about myself and the waste I generate. They do the job, but are more difficult to work with. Weigh your own opinion with your own experience.

These bags are great if you have a vacuum chamber sealer.If you have an edge sealer machine, these aren't for you.The plastic material is good and works well for everything I've used them for.They have a lovely seal when finished.There is a notch for tearing open at the pre-sealed end if you want it.Notes can be written clearly on a white shaded part.I thoroughly recommend them for chamber machines (only).

All the reviews saying that these bags won't seal / having issues most likely are using a regular vacuum sealer. These bags are for a CHAMBER vacuum sealer. If you don't know what that is, you may not need these bags.I have a Vesta chamber vacuum sealer (which their customer service is wonderful), and use these bags with it every day. They work great, they seal on the first try, even when vacuum sealing soups and sauces. My favorite part is that these bags are compostable, yet they stand up to cooking via sous vide. These are my vacuum bags of choice and I will continue to use and recommend them. Just be sure you are using the right type of vacuum sealer before reviewing.

I couldn't find enough specifications for a sealer to know for sure if it would work, but Amazon posted that customers usually bought the Geryon sealer with these bags...so I took a chance. It doesn't work. I will use them, but I'll have to push as much air out of them on my own, then just seal. I was really hoping it would work; this company's sealer is really expensive, but I think if you want these bags to work, you will have to buy theirs and not buy a generic brand sealer.To give them some kudos....the bags themselves are nice, lots of place to label and the material they're made of seems durable for something you can compost.

these bags a much more expensive than the regular vacuum chamber bags, but if you are looking for a bag that can be compostable and you dont have the ability to recycle your bags, they may be what you are looking for. They work just fine and are comparable to the regular bags...

I like the biodegradable aspect, a place to write on contents/date.I purchased for vacuum sealer.I've yet to see how long frozen items will stay to compare with my usual.Haven't tried with Sous Vide yet to see if they hold up, but they look promising!
