Works very well and very easy to use for a first time user

This Vesta Precision vacuum sealer machine works very well and was very easy to use for a first time user.I've previously only used a handheld vacuum sealer (Zwilling) with mostly with containers but also with special bags, so I don't have experience with this type of machine and anything to compare it to.I've been wanting to try a proper vacuum sealer machine with bags, because the handheld special bags are expensive and not always ideal. It's wasteful not to reuse those special bags, but overtime they break and stop working and it's not hygienic to reuse with raw meats and fish and other foods, and they are annoying to clean. This machine came with an instruction sheet and a QR code to watch a short instructional video/tutorial, and everything was clear and easy and I was up and running in no time flat and vacuum sealing away. I bought a bunch of fresh salmon and vacuum sealed pieces individually and am very happy with the results. I had one out of 20 that I had to redo because of a little air, but it was just a small pocket of air was probably user error since it's my first time using. It's super easy to set up and get started. You put the role on the spindle, pull out the bag length you want and there's a cutter on a bar that you slide across the bag to cut it to size. Then you place the end of the bag at the front of the machine and close the top down, and hit the "seal" button and it heat seals off the bag with two heat sealed lines. Then you put in your food and place the open end a little further into the machine to line up with the grey drip tray and close the machine and press the green button to vacuum and seal the bag. It beeps and releases the lid lock when done. I had no trouble using for the first time. This comes with a 10' starter set of smaller 8" and 11" wider bags, but I sealed 20 pieces of salmon and went through a a good amount and I need to order more. If you want to start off sealing a lot off the bat, I'd order extra bag rolls at the same time, so you are good to go. I was happy to see that Vesta Precision is a US company that has been in the industry for a long time and that this is designed and engineered in the US and has US customer support. To me this gives me more confidence and gives it a leg up in the plethora of vacuum sealers on the market.

Better than food saver, works extremely well.

This thing is a beast! Works extremely well and it’s easy to use. We had a food saver before but it didn’t seal the bags well and juice would eventually come out. So far this is a by far better machine. Need to learn how to use the attachments still but the vacuum seal works really well. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Excellent Value with Better Design Than FoodSaver

The media could not be loaded.

I’ve been using a FoodSaver v4840 since early 2020 heavily - it lives on my kitchen counter. I’m a big-time batch cooker, sous vide-er, and I cook our dog food and portion it into individual portions. That’s A LOT of bag sealing for a home cook!Value ComparisonThe current comparable FoodSaver model looks like it’s $234. At $159.99, this is an excellent value!Superior Design Feature #1: Top-Close vs. Slide-InOne of the biggest things that stands out: you close the top onto the bag on the Vesta versus sliding the bag opening into a slot on the FoodSaver. This is such a better design! After years of heavy use, my FoodSaver is failing with how it catches and senses when the bag is inside. There’s no way to see inside the machine without pulling the drawer out and turning the whole thing upside down. You’re obviously not supposed to mess with internal components like that, but they do need cleaning - this feels like planned obsolescence on FoodSaver’s part.GAME CHANGER: Precise Seal Placement Saves Money! The top-close design means you can control exactly where you seal the bags! This is HUGE and will save me money - you use WAY FEWER bags from the roll.On the FoodSaver, you have to shove the open end into the slot until the machine registers it - at least a couple inches, more when you have a cube or thick item in the bag. With the Vesta’s top-close design, you waste minimal bag material!Superior Design Feature #2: Hold Seal Function! This vacuum sealer actually HOLDS the seal if you press the seal button during the vacuum process! It will stop vacuuming and hold the seal where it is without letting air in, then seal it.On the FoodSaver, if I interrupt the seal process by pressing seal while it’s vacuuming (even though it’s sufficiently vacuumed), it releases some air into the bag before sealing - super frustrating!Superior Design Feature #3: Double Seal! Each seal is actually TWO seals! Two parallel seams down the bag provide extra security against leaks.Extensive Real-World TestingI’ve put this through its paces with multiple applications:Sous Vide Chicken: Sealed about 6 bags of chicken with various herb rubs. One bag with a lot of pesto on the seal area didn’t fully evacuate air (though it did seal), but that’s just the learning curve with any machine.Souper Cubes: Sealed 12 x 1 cup Souper Cubes of frozen white bean and veggie soup. The precise seal placement was perfect for minimizing bag waste!Sourdough Bread: Made 4 boules, sliced them, and portioned slices into separate bags. Used the pulse button to remove just the right amount of air without squishing the bread. The hold seal function maintained exactly the right vacuum without releasing additional air - perfect bread preservation! The Zipper Bag/Container IssueOne consideration: while the vacuum hose attachment is specifically meant for mason jars, it doesn’t work for vacuum zipper bags or special vacuum containers with the little vacuum buttons on them. Vesta sells a separate handheld machine for this, but the FoodSaver has this integrated in the hose attachment.I have a lot of the zipper bags and containers (I especially like using them for parmesan cheese to keep it fresh between microplaning), so I unfortunately still need both machines.Electrical Issue - Use CautionNote of caution: I’ve noticed that when I leave it plugged in, my circuit trips and I have to reset it. The circuit doesn’t blow immediately. This could indicate the unit is drawing standby power or there’s a minor electrical issue. I’d recommend unplugging when not in use as a safety precaution. This may be specific to my unit or my home’s electrical setup, but worth mentioning.Perfect ForHeavy-use home cooksSous vide enthusiastsBatch cooking and meal prep (Souper Cubes!)Sourdough bread preservationDog food portioningAnyone frustrated with FoodSaver’s wasteful designBudget-conscious vacuum sealers who want to save on bagsKey Advantages Over FoodSaverPrecise seal placement = less bag waste = money saved!Hold seal function prevents air from re-enteringTop-close design (easier to clean, better visibility)Double seal for extra securityBetter value ($160 vs $234)What You’ll Need SeparatelyHandheld vacuum sealer if you use zipper bags/containers with valve buttonsBottom LineAfter extensive testing with chicken, soup cubes, and bread, this is superior to FoodSaver in every way except zipper bag compatibility. The precise seal control and hold function are game-changers that save money and preserve food better!

Best vacuum sealer for liquids I have ever used!

So impressed with this vacuum sealer. I have used a lot of different brands and none compare to this one when it comes to managing liquid foods! It seals bag after bag easily without overheating and no pre-freezing anymore! Cannot beat the price for the quality. It seals quick and also does a double seal.

Cheaper sealers available that work just as good

Works ok. I have a $50 one that works just as well. Not very powerful and the liquid mode is a joke. It leaves so much air in the bag which defeats the point. Not worth the price I paid for it

Great machine

Works very well. Just keep your gaskets clean so they stay in place. I keep a wet cloth handy to wipe them off. If the get sticky, they become dislodged.

Works with 3D Filament.

This machine is cost effective and works great for my 3D filament. No need to crush the spools, dont vaccum it all the way.

Don't do it.

Worked great the first time I used it. Unfortunately It stopped being reliable. Bags in the freezer were found with air, and it got harder and harder to use as I had to wait minutes in between each bag seal. Personally I wouldn't risk it again. I was able to get my money back. If you have one that doesnt work, Amazon did tell me that I could have had it replaced by the company as it has a 1 year warranty. I chose a refund

Forget the good reviews. Mine stopped working after pulling only THREE vacuums.

I was thrilled to "find" this alternative to the major brand. "Find" means it was promoted by Amazon, of course, so it was toward the top and I saw all the five star reviews and figured "alright!"Lame.I'm going to have to go back to foodsavr. Also the plastic bags it came with are thin. Not great for secure longer storage of food items.

Vacuum seals great but very noisy

This vacuum sealer vacuums and seals very well, however, the noise it makes for every step it a bit annoying to me. Ok, a lot annoying. It beeps when you turn it on, it beeps 3 times when it's finished sealing. Then, when you are just sealing an edge to make a bag, the motor kicks in like you are vacuum sealing and then the 3 beeps. These are very loud beeps.I make a lot of bags, sometimes 100 at a time, 2 or 3 times a year. I cut, seal, cut seal seal, cut seal seal. That's for 3 bags. That's 5 deafening revving motor sounds and 15 loud beeps times 32. My neighbors would not appreciate this. I do not appreciate this.I contacted the vendor to see if there was a way to turn off the beeps but no. That was before I knew about the revving motor while just making a seal, lol!One of the reasons I selected this machine was the single hand locking bar as opposed having to use 2 hands to lock it down. My old Foodsaver locked itself so when I bought a new one and found I had to use 2 hands to lock it, returned! This Vesta also has a lower profile than my old machine, which is nice. This machine vacuum seals like a demon so if noise doesn't bother you, go for it. I do use it when I need to vacuum seal but to make bags, I'm lucky that my old Foodsaver still works for that. Groans a little but no revving and beeps. Still looking for a replacement for sealing sessions.

Very happy. Preserving is addictive...

I didn't realize how much I needed a vacuum sealer. It's a bit addicting, finding all the things you can preserve. Be sure to read what you cannot vacuum seal... Brussel sprouts will make a stink bomb. Ask me how I know. This is my first sealer, so I have no comparison, but I love it. Used mainly for vacuum sealing bags but have used the canning jar feature to seal dried herbs. Have been buying surplus because I know it will last much longer in the freezer. If I was pressed to find a negative, it is pretty loud when vacuuming and sealing.
